I can't get up in the morning to write because I've got school. I do most of my writing during class, lunch or the occasional free period. I don't have a set time to write. I write whenever and wherever. It really helps because I don't limit myself to let's say 3 or 4 hours a day if I've got a scheduled time. Also, ideas come to me at anytime--whether I'm on my way home, while I'm eating or sitting bored in class, so my technique works for me.

I do most of my writing, as well as my procrastinating, at night while everyone else is asleep. I can write undisturbed and usually get quite involved in it. If not, I can go on Yahoo Answers, DeviantART, and Cuteoverload.com without getting yelled at.
Also the night is such an inspiring time. On clear nights I can look up into the sky and see all the pretty stars and reassure myself I'm just a small little girl in a very, very big open space. Nigh is when I get in the most trouble and have the most fun too.
So I actually don't get up in the morning to write. I wait until everyone is asleep before I do.

I seem to write best when I begin between 5:00 A.M. and 8:00 A.M., but I get up at whatever time my eyes pop open in the morning. Some mornings that doesn't happen until after 9:00 A.M. Those days I usually don't get around to writing until 1:00 P.M. and I don't get much done by 4:00 P.M. when I end my work day.
When I'm really inspired, it doesn't matter what time I sit down at the computer. I'm always amazed and somewhat disoriented to find that it's nearly dinner (or bed) time and I haven't even thought about lunch.

I'm a night owl, write from around 3-7 in the am, except this morning because I came to a good stopping point.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

I get up at 5:00 a.m. on weekdays and write from 1-1.5 hours. This is something I'd have never believed possible when I lived in the east, but once I lived in the northwest the summer light made it easier to get up and be productive. I don't live there anymore, but I got myself one of those dawn simulator alarm clocks that gradually makes the room light before the alarm starts up, and that makes a huge difference. (This is more than you wanted to know, but I know at one point for me the important info would not have been "What time?" but "How do you DO that?!" So that's my secret.)

I can't fathom the idea of writing in the morning, and early morning at that. I guess it's because I'm not a morning person. I usually write at night too. I've written a lot of poems at 2, 3am.

I write anytime that I get a few minutes free, and make notes when something occurs to me in the middle of another activity.
Some of my successful writing friends use a very flexible schedule; they don't write at a set time of day, but they do adhere to a minimum number of words per day.

There are times when I'm writing a novel or a short story that I will wake up at 3am and sit at the desk taking notes of something that just pops into my head. Actually, I call it the characters that speak to me. When I'm stuck on something there are times when it will suddenly come to me right out of a sound sleep.
Sometimes I go back over my work and I'm totally stunned at what I see. It's like the characters took it upon themselves to just go their own way. It's amazing.

I live backwards. I write at night. 1 am - 5 am to be exact. With naps in the daytime. I love those quiet hours when I can look out the window and see nothing but the street light and an occasional possum crossing the street. I consider myself a literary vampire. Pax- C
