My roommate and I have been sharing a room for a week already, and we're not jiving well. She is kind of reserved and likes to talk to old friends on the phone and the internet. On two evenings a week she is gone for practice, and while she is here we don't do things together. We've hardly done anything together. Other people hang out with their roommates all the time, and they are having so much fun, I feel left out. What should I do?

Go with the flow.
Your roomie is there to share the expense of that room with you. It is a business relationship.
You need to get out and make some friends for yourself.
You may run into someone you would rather have for a roomie... if so, you make plans and try to make it a smooth transition.

You describe her as a 'roommate' rather than a friend.
It seems like you two went into this together merely as roommates from the beginning and now your expecting more of a friendship w/them.
It takes time to build friendships, although many friends would never wanna be roommates w/their friends so it sounds perfect to me!
Start doing more things in your own life for YOU!!

Have you tried to express to her that you wished to get to know each other little more? Friendship doesn't grow overnight. It takes time. Other people hang out with thier roommates, maybe true, but, the question is how long do they know each other? Your roommate, perhaps, she might be one of those shy ones. try to talk to her instead of waiting for her to appoach to you.

Good luck

find other friends and ask her to join you when she becomes curious; she will pull out of her reserved ways in a month or so.
