i have been married for 21 years and have had no intimacy for about 5 years now, i know a man cannot go this long. so do you think he could be cheating or could it be because he is a alcoholic and it has ruined him?

Wow that is a real long time! It is possible that he is cheating...but when someone abuses alcohol or any drug for that matter....the drug of choices becomes more important then anything else...including sex.

I have been an alcoholic in a long lasting relationship where I (the man) lost all of my desire for sex because my equipment did not really work. I gave up. Years later after losing her to my problem, I sobered up. A month of not drinking and sex was never better and kept getting better.Of course this was in a new realtionship. I personally don't believe he is cheating. He needs to give up the booze but I don't have any good advice for how to go about getting him to do this because I know how hard it is to get off it.

There could be other underlying issues. He may not be happy with who he has become. Even though men do not express it as much as women do, men also have issues with there body, there work, there life...just like we do. He may not be where he want to be in life. He may feel like hes not worth enough to have a wonderful wife. Counseling might help a little bit. If your not happy and are fighting and things get abusive then I would suggest taking a break, moving out and seeing how it goes from there. Even after many many years of marriage people change in different directions. Could also me a midlife crisis? Keep your chin up!

my question is why would you go so long without?

Without questioning him, without talking to him, without counseling, without a lover, without a divorce?
