whats the difference with windows and linux hosting plans

Personally I prefer linux for a hosting OS. Windows adds lots of menu access for the administrator but its kindof heavy on the system load.

I guess the biggest difference would be what you are used to.

Basically, as you'll never see the OS all you'll ever get is the control panel but from an operating system point of view linux is far more secure. It from some points of view is also quicker and less likely to suffer from software based problems, most linux operating systems are able to operate constantly without being rebooted for months if not years.

I work in a data centre though and I hate working with linux problems so from a repair point of view its more likely that your Windows problems will get fixed quicker, but thats just a matter of opinion.

Edit:
Linux can run JSP and ASP - chillisoft ASP runs perfectly on linux systems and most hosting companies will have this installed on linux machines, for some people it is also the preferred method of hosting ASP pages. Linux should also ALWAYS be tree, there are no 'in general' statement, the operating system is free, if a hosting company charges for it they're crap.

Linux Cannot run asp and some jsp scripts, but is more stable (and Generaally less expensive)

Windows can do most formats including ASP and JSP.

I use http://www.hostmonster.com/track/kdiskcom/YahooAnswers to host with and they are great and very in-expensive
