Boredom is energy with no object. Restlessness. Someone who is bored has the desire to act, but can not envision any action that is interesting.
Boredom can be a sign of depression. If you are losing interest in activities that are normally enjoyable to you, that is a good sign you are clinically depressed. (I use you here in general to mean some third person, and not you in particular.)
All humans enjoy a variety of activities. It's how we are made. Life varies dramatically, and being interested in new activities and actions is a successful adaptation.
So, why can't you sit and stare at a blank wall all day? Because you are programmed to seek out stimuli. Think about it this way. If your genes told you to do nothing, how long would you survive?
Not having enough stimuli is unhealthy. If they eyes are deprived of light at birth for several days, they will never see.
Action is what humans are designed to do.
Variety, they say, is the spice of life.
Have you ever been hangliding, repelling, sailing, skydiving, scubadiving?
Which brings me to another point. Perhaps you are an adrenaline junkie. For some people, it takes a lot of stimuli to keep their interest. Is that you?
So anyway, keep trying new stuff and if everything is boring, go see a doctor.

Shouldn't it be "pleasure" that causes boredom?
If there are three guys, same age, sex, but one has 6 fig. income and second guy has 40's income and the third guy has 0 income or homeless.
They all have some sort of activities that they do. In a way, they all want some sort of pleasures. I wouldn't be surprised if a homeless guy feels same pleasure as a 6 fig. income guy. I would say that we all do what we do to find pleasure in life. A mentally retarded guy could look at a blank wall all day and find pleasure. I just think pleasure makes us find new and different things or same things, which ultimately leads to boredom or sort in a long run or even in a short run.

Boredom is living life under your expectation. You get bored because you are not able to do what you really like and it pisses you off.

have you ever worked security? that is the epitome of boredom. the trick is to think...about life, about how things are made, about how they painted the wall. it's your mind marking the passage of time. once you ignore it you won't be bored.
