I mean, let's say you've written a story 1 hundred pages long in microsoft word. How many pages would that make up in a book if it were published?

Don't think in pages. Industry standard is in words. Figure 250 words per page is standard. When you are asked how long your manuscript is, always reply in words not pages if you want to sound professional. Pax- C

You're better measuring by words -- that way, formatting and font don't make any difference. When you submit a short story or a novel manuscript to a publisher, they'll expect you to fall within certain length guidelines, and the length is measured by words.

For example, most publishers require that manuscripts from unpublished authors be between 90,000 and 120,000 words. Of course, these guidelines change from publisher to publisher, and are different for different target audiences. Manuscripts for young adult audiences are shorter, perhaps 60,000 to 90,000 words.

In Word, go to the Tools menu and hit Word Count to get the number of words in your file.

I'm not sure. it kind of depends on the size and demensions of the book your comparing it to. what you could do though, is take what ever you are planning on publishing and copy it on microsoft. then change the margines to the hypothetical size of a regular book. then there's a page counter on the bottom-it'll tell you how many pages there are. i hope this helps-but i'm not totally knowledgable in computers. anyways good luck.

in general, I'd say two-three pages in A5 format for every one microsoft word page. Less if double spaced.
