I've always been somewhat co-depenent, and I'm not really
sure how to change or do things differently. I'm a lot better about doing for everyone else and not so great at taking care of myself. I grew up in a violent alcoholic home.
I'm trying to better myself - I'm a 45 year old man, widower, no kids.

Go do things you want to do, for yourself, don't be afraid of new people. Force yourself to meet new people and do things you've never done before. Co-dependency usually runs hand in hand with being afraid of change, because you lacked stability growing up.

honestly no slam intended your best bet would be to get into therapy you are an older individual..most at this age would be set in your ways..you have to figure out why you are codependent in order to fix it..good luck
