I was at my job, and had the set on The Discovery Channel (I work in a TV repair shop). I was very shocked to hear of his demise.
I still watch the re-runs of his programs when they come on. I really admire him because of the legacy he left in his documentary programs, and the movie (I have the DVD). He was so genuine, one could not help but like the man!
My wife and I both shared in the grief the Irwin family was going through. Terry, Bindi Sue, and little Bob were really very good, to share with us their lives during that time. I also have a DVD copy of the memorial service. What a tribute to a really great soul!
They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
I see where Bindi is carrying on the same work as her Dad. What a charming and tough little girl she must be. Terry is one in a million, as well. Little Bob is still just a little tyke, but we love him too!
Thank you Irwin family for letting your fans share in your lives, and suffering.
God bless each one of you!

I was on an afternoon off and the announcement came over the ticker on the bottom of the screen. I waited 10 minutes for a news bulletin to confirm it, before I phoned my partner, who was/is a huge Steve Irwin fan, to tell him. I made sure he pulled the car over before I told him.
We miss him terribly. We watched 'My Dad - The Crocodile Hunter' the other night and just reminded us of what a great loss it was.

I can't believe it's already been a year. I feel bad for his family.
I think I was in my living room when I heard about it... jeez, what a freak accident... it still shocks me how he died... it's just so surprising that it was a STING-RAY that killed him out of all the other animals he's dealt with. So sad.
I really always admired him for all of his work. Great man, he was.

I was talking to my mom in our TV Room, and she told me that he was dead. I couldn't believe it. I had seen him on the TV earlier that day, but I just assumed they were interviewing him. I felt for the animals he left behind. He was their best friend, their champion. Without him who knows what is going to happen to them. I'm so glad, though, that his daughter Bindi has rebounded after such a heavy loss. She is following in her father's footsteps. Steve would be proud.
