My sister's leopard gecko died. I need help to know why.?

It had surgery on it's mouth, from crushed walnut getting stuck in the gums while eatting. She lost a lot of weight before the surgery. The vet said to give her 100cc's of ensure twice a day. After two weeks--refusing eating mealworms or crickets--of ensure, she wasn't getting any better. the vet thought parasites could be the cause, so he give her parasitic meds. Today she died, and my sister is in tears. She had her for years. Can anyone help?

Are you sure he said 100cc's of Ensure? That sounds like a huge amount for a Leo. I'm not sure you could physically get that much into one. It sounds like the Leo may have died from either malnutrition or infection, or it could have swallowed some walnut shell and had an impaction, a common occurrence with loose substrates.
