There is a huge difference between God himself and all of the crazy people who are doing things supposedly in God's name. The people who get up there and say that God hates homosexuals haven't read their Bible close enough - He loves everyone, and if Jesus Christ were on the earth today - he'd eat and drink with you just the same. Many people have used religion to persecute so many groups of people over the centuries. Like the Jews in World War Two, etc. but that doesn't mean God Himself hates Gays - he doesn't. He hates Sin - but he hates ALL SIN. I don't think he goes and says this is a worse sin than that one. God Himself - loves Gay people very much - and anyone who says differently is misguided. But I want to caution you against hating all Christians just because of what people have done to you. In high school people accused me of being gay and did hate against me too - so I understand to a small degree that you have suffered by the hands of these people.(continued)

what a few people do doesn't mean everyone is bad. That's how racism starts - someone does something bad and then they assume everyone is bad. And just because they do it doesn't mean everyone is all terrible.
I do talk with Christian people about the need to show kindness and love to gay people. I am one person that has some understanding of both sides.
and I care about gay people. I think the people doing all this are just plain scared, and that when they are afraid they do things that they shouldn't do. they aren't the only ones. Some of the alienation you feel is the same as any other single person, and some of the alienation is just from their hatred, and I apologize for all the people who have treated you unjustly -but I dont' know why I'm apologizing, I didn't do anything. I've made it a point to try to make friends on both sides for years, and I haven't persecuted gay people. (cont)

but I think that if gay people want to change they can change though - it's incredibly difficult and you can't do it alone. people have done it so it can be done. in general the people criticizing you have'nt been in your shoes and they have no idea your pain. so just ignore them and try to show kindness if you can. I know you experience much more difficulties than even I am aware of, and I am aware of most of the things that people have endured.
just trying to do what I can to bridge the huge gap
not everyone is terrible, not everyone hates gays and the ones that are doing this are just plain rednecks and in general they grew up in this culture whre that's what they think - they just haven't thought it threw, and frankly they don't have much going on upstairs. So view it that way.
lots of love and kindness to all of you.

Of course God loves all His creations. Yes all major religions are scared of admitting to this. Our soul is our spiritual side and the soul has no sex. So there... if our soul is sexless what are our relationships called. Who gets to choose our sexuality. The same people who have been killing and fighting wars in the name of God. My God is a God of Love and i am a muslim and comfortable with my spiritually and sexuality. PEACE TO ALL IN THE WORLD. Leave the judgment to God and strive to be your best!!!

I made it through your novel... you are against hate got that... here's a cookie. Gay people can change there practices but not who they are. If you are gay then sorry but you are gay for life, Practicing it or not. Yes God loves everyone, another brownie and yes the religious right convict. You my dear aren't going to bridge the gap. That has to come from a higher power... He starts with education.

if people would read the bible right instead of skipping parts they don't like they would know it says god loves everyone unconditionaly. the bible says god loves all his children even when they may do wrong. i'm not sure if there is really a god or not but if there is and he did hate gay people i know i would be an atheist right away. i can't believe in a higher power that would condem a people for being just how they were born.

The underlying message here is still that engaging in homosexual activity is a sin, and therefor one needs to change that behavior and learn somehow to desire heterosexual pleasures. The writer doesn't seem to understand that the beginning of hate is the perception that the other person is doing hate-able things, whether purposefully or not. So I ask, would this person still be so "tolerant" if she decided that the change she recommends trying would not be possible?
It's probable that no accommodation can ever be reached with someone who doesn't really believe in science, heredity, or especially in evolution.

Do Buddhists believe in a creator god?
No, we do not. There are several logical reasons for this. The Buddha, like modern scientists, sociologists and psychologists, believed that religious ideas and especially the god idea have their origins in fear. The Buddha says:
"Gripped by fear men go to sacred mountains, sacred groves, sacred trees and shrines." *Dhammpada 188
Primitive man found himself in a dangerous and hostile world, the fear of wild animals, of not being able to find enough food, of injury or disease, and of natural phenomena like thunder, lightning and volcanoes was constantly with him. Finding no security, he created the idea of god in order to give him comfort in good times, courage in times of danger and consolation when things went wrong. To this day, you will notice that people become more religious at times of crises, you will hear them say that the belief in a god gives them the strength they need to deal with life. You will hear them explain that they believe in god because they prayed in time of need and their prayer was answered. All this seems to support the Buddha’s teaching that the god-idea is a response to fear and frustration. The Buddha taught us to try to understand our fears, to lessen our desires and to calmly and courageously accept the things we cannot change. He replaced fear, not with irrational belief but with rational understanding.
The second reason the Buddha did not believe in a creator god is because there does not seem to be any evidence to support this idea. There are numerous religions, all claiming that they alone have god’s words preserved in their holy book, that they alone understand god’s nature, that their god exists and that the gods of other religions do not. Some claim that god is masculine, some that she is feminine and others that it is neuter. They are all satisfied that there is ample evidence to prove the existence of their god but they laugh in disbelief at the evidence other religions use to prove the existence of another god. It is not surprising that with so many different religions spending so many centuries trying to prove the existence of their gods that still no real, concrete, substantial or irrefutable evidence has been found. Buddhists suspend judgement until such evidence is forthcoming.
The third reason the Buddha did not believe in a creator god is that the belief is not necessary. Some claim that the belief in a god is necessary in order to explain the origin of the universe. But this is not so. Science has very convincingly explained how the universe came into being without having to introduce the god-idea. Some claim that belief in god is necessary to have a happy, meaningful life. Again we can see that this is not so. There are millions of Atheists, free-thinkers and Buddhists, who live useful, happy and meaningful lives without belief in a creator god. Some claim that belief in god’s power is necessary because humans, being weak, do not have the strength to help themselves. Once again, the evidence indicates the opposite. One often hears of people who have overcome great disabilities and handicaps, enormous odds and difficulties through their own inner resources, through their own efforts and without belief in a god. Some claim that god is necessary in order to give man salvation. But this argument only holds good if you accept the theological concept of salvation and Buddhists do not accept such a concept. Based on his own experience, the Buddha saw that each human being had the capacity to purify the mind, develop infinite love and compassion and perfect understanding. He shifted attention from the heavens to the heart and encouraged us to find solutions to our problems through self-understanding.
But if there is no creator god how did the universe get here?
All religions have myths and stories which attempt to answer this question. In ancient times, when man simply did not know, such myths were adequate, but in the 20th century, in the age of physics, astronomy and geology, such myths have been superseded by scientific fact. Science has explained the origin of the universe without recourse to the god-idea.

I agree with you some of us don't believe that christians are nice ppl . but that is mostly bcuz we have been persecuted and judged for who we love. Me and my wife are lesbians and we are just as religious as a heterosexual couple, we pray, read the bible, and do plenty of other things. Ppl just need to understand and get to know us before they judge us.

Yes, I believe that those who do believe in God also believe that God is incapable of hating His creations. It is not of the nature of one who is pure unconditional love to hate. People, on the other hand, have been judgmental idiots since the fall of Adam and Eve (Steve?)...sorry about that, couldn't resist.

Very nice indeed. Remember above all else, GOD LOVES YOU NO MATTER WHAT!! People are not your judges and you do not live to please them. Please do not lose your hope and faith over ignorance and irrational judgment. Only you walk in your shoes. God loves you. We are all sinners and can be saved by HIS grace alone.
