Hi Princess,
I don't think Jen is dumb..Maybe she thinks she's dumb. Maybe she believes she's dumb. And it gets worse as others (maybe even her parents) started to put her down. The truth is Jen simply doesn't have the self-confidence to get the thing done..How do you help her?? By starting to tell her "she can do it". By building up her bruised-up-confidence. By wholeheartedly praising her when she get a good grade once in a while and being there as well to encourage her when she didn't get satisfactory grades. Most important BE HER FRIEND..This will not be an overnight undertaking though..Sometimes it takes years before she can turn her grades around..Sometimes you will not see the changes in her school grades..But believe me, slowly her confidence is turning the corner already. And hey it's worth it..because the greatest gift you can give to a person is GIVE THEIR CONFIDENCE BACK especially to those who have low self-esteem..you've just make them love themselves again.

You don't give enough information. Does she study? Does she read well. Has she ever been tested to see if she has a learning disability. Does she need glasses? Does she hear well? Does she get really nervous about taking tests and freeze up?

If all this is good then maybe she's just a person who has to struggle to do well academically. That doesn't make her stupid. She should probably go to her school counselor and share her worries with that person. They can give her all kinds of advise, tests, help with homework, etc.

Tell her that stupid people don't worry about their grades.

Make sure you let her know first that she is not dumb. She may need to apply herself more to studying. Make sre she know that you a her friend and that you are there to help her. She maybe having problems at home or somewhere else that is hindering her progress in school. Time to really sit down and communicate withher. Wish you the best of luck and to her also.

Well, start encouraging her more. If you two are in the same classes, call her up and work on it together. Set study dates, or even sit at the cafeteria together and start working on homework then. Normally, if you just do the homework, you'll get at least a B, even if you fail all the tests. I'd say get her and the rest of your friends together and hit the books.

if you share classes you could study together.. maybe you see what it is that she isnt catchin on to. Sometimes in high school low grades doesnt mean she is dumb... maybe she doesnt study well or has a hard time taking tests. Explain that to her and also point out her good qualities and why you are friends with her!

If you really care talk to her, find out what the real problem is, like most of us when we were in school maybe she hates school for now, eventually she will care but since you are her friend and you care then help her and talk to her, obviously there are many issues in her life. Good luck.

Why don't you make study time with her. Have a sleepover study night and just study all night along with some fun time. Maybe she just needs a study buddy to help. Good Luck

I think you can tell her that she has more potential now to do a wonderful job next time. Just don't focus on the results but the reasons. I believe she would do much better next time!
