It was late at night and my bf was trying to call me, but I didn;t hear my phone, so he had the downstairs people come bang on the door, but I didn;t hear that either. A minute after they quit, he called again and I heard it and he asked why I didn;t wake up or something and I said I didn;t even know, but I just had a dream that someone was banging on the dorr and I opened it and they tried to come in and I called the police, but that really didn't happen though, but I dreamt that while they were banging on the door. So, what exactly cause this and why? I mean, I dreamt what was happening kinda of with a twist of calling the cops. What causes this and why? Has this happened to you?

Dreams are influenced by sounds around you. If your alarm is a clock radio, you are likely to awaken from a dream related to the song playing. If you aren't getting enough sleep, your body works to have you dream about the telephone rather than awaken and get up to answer it. Of course, the dream doesn't need to stick to reality, so all manner of strange things can happen in the dream. Flying is a very common one.

I leave on the TV and usually if it is closer to morning, I will remember a dream that was from what was on tv right before I woke.

Dreamtime is when your brain sorts out the baggage of the day, but when you have it sorted and your deramtime is done, You can still dream from external input around you.
