ibanez makes a solid piece in that price range, with a fair selection of models to suit your needs.
in the late 80;s i really liked the Jackson sound for that genre of music "hair metal"
fender also makes other models that are a good quality. you don't have to buy krystal just becasue you want champagne, ya know?
bc rich sucks. stay away.

Try out a bunch of guitars and see which one you like the best. Too many people (my daughter included) got guitars strictly for their looks and ended up not liking to play them.
