Yes, sometimes. Don't expect to get it "right" the first time. It can be a challenge. This pattern isn't for anything where "fit" or stretch is critical.

Write out the pattern with lots of blank space for notes. Note where increases are made and where decreases are made. Do your best.

If the first "trial" ends up longer/skinnier than desired, you'll know that you need to either increase the number of stitches or decrease the number of rows. I did recommend leaving *lots* of blank space for notes.

I'm imagining an entire family of these and you experiment with different yarns and hooks as well as with converting the itself.

You might be able to convert some knit patterns but you would really have to be good. It would take a lot of experimenting to get the correct gauge. Plus the look would be different in crochet than knit.

I generally use the rule that each single crochet stitch is about the same as a knit stitch but each row of single crochet is about the same as 2 rows of knitting. You may need to do a swatch to see how close this is.

There are websites that are supposed to help you convert a knitting pattern to a crochet pattern. I can't tell you if they work, or how hard it is, since I do not crochet.

Here is one you can look over:

Good luck!

no--you can't crochet using a knitting pattern.knitting uses at least 2 needles with stitches totally different than the stitches made with a single crochet hook
