I certanily am not. They take millions out our schools annually. It's messing up our child's education and future.
Many liberals are terrified of what might happen if American families are ever given the power to choose where their children will be educated. According to their critics, no lie or deed is too foul for them to use in their effort to mislead the public into opposing any piece of legislation that might weaken their own power. The teachers' unions and liberal politicians manifest their vested interest in the public school monopoly by attempting to block any attempt to weaken their control over the minds of America's young. Evidence for this claim is easily available from the television commercials against school choice broadcast in states considering voucher plans.
Anyway, That's how I feel.

By the way. I'm not trying to single out 1 group from another. I have a limited amount of words to use as does everyone else. And when it came to me, it came to me.

Taken directly from a book I am currently reading- "Revolutionary Wealth" by Alvin and Heidi Toffler:
"Is it possible that it takes $400 Billion to maintain this broken heap? The answer is yes, every year. It is the American school system.
Designed for mass production, operated like factories, managed bureaucratically, protected by powerful trade unions and politicians dependent on teacher's votes, America's schools are perfect reflections of the early twentieth-century economy. The best that can be said of them is that they are no worse than schools in most other advanced countries.
While businesses are driven to change by high- speed competition, public school systems are protected monopolies. Parents, innovative teachers and the media clamor for a change. Yet, despite a growing number of educational experiments, the core of U.S public education remains the factory-style school designed for the industrial age.
How can a ten-mile-per hour education system prepare students for jobs in companies moving at a hundred miles per hour?"
I am with you. I am NOT satisfied with our school system. I wonder every day what I can do to better prepare my children for the future.

First off, the federal government should be completely removed from the education system.
Secondly, the school system should be a truly free market system where parents can choose whatever school they want. Parents should not be forced into a position where they have to settle for only the public education system if they are unable to afford to pay for something else. No one should have to pay to educate someone else's children, be forced to pay for government indoctrination, sports teams, third & fourth languages, etc (whether you are single or married with children).
The current system does not look out for parents, look out for children or maximize the efficiency of what we get for our revenue. Taxation is out of control, school boards are wasting too much, and unions are too powerful and prey on "it is for the children" montra.
Everyone could have much more money in their family budgets, children could get much better educations, and parents could have total control over the choices for their children if the system was reformed and a more market oriented system enacted.
The current system is too wasteful and simply not producing a good product. It is time for true reform.

I beieve that the U.S. public school system is the best school system in the entire world. I do not want my tax dollars going to vouchers for private schools that are not now, and would not be accountable in any way to the taxpayers. You have no evidence whatsoever of any "vested interest" in public schools or that shows that public schools monopolize or attempt to control the minds of our children.
Most Americans are unaware that they do have complete power over where their children attend school. You may send your children to public schools, private schools or home school them yourself. The voucher plan is an attempt to get taxpayers to pay for the luxury of a private school. If private schools are your choice, I should not have to pay for it.
You are wrong on this one.

I'm not completely satisfied with our school system, but it has little to do with teachers' unions or politicians. In fact, I find it fascinating that liberals are significantly more likely to go into low-pay professions like teaching and nursing in the first place, so be wary of throwing the blame all on one political party or the other.

Your mind might benefit from not talking about 'liberals' whom you apparently know nothing about.
We are liberals and have been unschooling for 14 years. Most of our homeschooling pals are liberals.
The brainwashing in American schools is conservative brainwashing - kids are still taught to honor Columbus, teachers still sneak in references to the invisible sky god all the time, kids are taught to sit down, shut up, and OBEY OBEY OBEY.
So, while I agree with some of your points, you are attacking a phony enemy. Could you stop already? I sure am sick of the liberal bashing - since it is based on lies.
You and I would never be able to get together because you have stupid preconceived notions of who I am. Grow up already and learn to think.

We are not preparing our children to survive in the world. They need more math and science skills . They need everyday living skills and some vocational skills. They need English skills.
