hmm maybe just try and talk to her saying something like, "i really like it and i would love to go into acting. You'll never know how good i can be if i don't at least try and go for it. And im sure if i try it i'll be less shy"
or something similar that..
good luck.

Your question doesn't specify how old you are, or if by going into acting you mean taking classes in school, or actually trying to break into the business on your own.
If you mean classes at school, you may tell her that classes in acting, improvisation, movement and speech are actually very helpful in overcoming shyness and giving confidence in your own abilities. They can also provide you with insight into whether or not you'll want to pursue acting as a career.
If, on the other hand, you want to try and make it in theater and film on your own, being a little shy can be a big drawback, since there are literally thousands and thousands of people also trying to get into the business. The ones that make it not only have talent, self-confidence, will, drive, and nearly limitless energy, but not much shyness at all when it comes to perfecting their craft and fighting to get the parts and opportunities to display their craft. And they all love theater.
And very few of these thousands and thousands actually get parts, become noticed, and get into the business full time.
How much do you want to do this?
How much are you willing to give to make it happen?
How much of your life are you willing to trade for just a chance?
Perhaps this is what your Mom is wondering on your behalf.
Think about it.

Well, when you get a part for an upcoming play or something, invite her to watch just to show her what you got! If that doesn't convince her, let her have a talk with your theatre teacher.

You could talk to them and say you will work for it and do house work for them to help make the money for it. Also make the point that it wont be a problem cause nobody is really going to see it and after you get it if they really don't want you to have it you can always take it out cause its better then a tattoo. Hope this helps.

Many celebrities are shy, and some even have othe issues like stuttering, Mel Tillis has a stutter when he talks but not when he sings.

Just do it...take it as an elective in school. If it turns out that you can't, then you can't, but don't let someone tell you what they think you can't do.
BTW...I'm a mother and a grandmother...not a kid.
