I am due November 17 and I want to have an elective cesarean due to medical reasons. How early can they schedule me for a c-section??? One week, two weeks?

An elective c-section is one that is done for no reason other than the mom wants to have it done. A c-section done for medical reasons is not an elective c-section and has many factors to consider before scheduling a date. If it is dangerous to mom or baby for mom to go into labor on her own then a c-section may be done as early as 37 weeks to reduce the risk of spontaneous labor. If the medical concern has more to do with delivery than labor, the c-section could likely be scheduled closer to within a week of the due date since it would not harm mom or baby if labor happened to spontaneously start before the schedule c-section date. Your doctor will help you decide which date to schedule your c-section for and will probably give you several dates to chose from. Many doctors will not perform an elective c-section. It is major surgery which comes with an inherent series of risks (infection being a major concern). If there is no medical reason to perform the surgery many doctors just won't do it. This is an issue best discussed with your obstetrician.

This all depends on IF your doctor will do it. What is the medical reason for wanting it ? Id say you shouldn't have the baby too early as his/her lungs are not developed. I would consult your doctor. If you don't like his answer, get a second opinion. But the longer your baby is in utero, the better.

Usually they schedule your c-section 1 week before your due date.

For me the doc scheduled my c-section at 38.5 weeks. The baby was breech.

at 38 weeks. (which is normal)
however if you are having complications then they may decide to do it earlier like around 36-37 weeks.
but at 38 weeks the lungs are fully developed....
the longer they stay in the better it is for them.
