Criteria 1) A leopard gecko, armadillo lizard,or anole
2) there are no "venomous" lizards. The Komodo dragon is not venomous,it's mouth houses several virulent strains of bacteria that eventually prove fatal when bitten. They follow their prey around until it dies.

I've had all except lizards as pets. I love hermit crabs because they're so easy to care for and fun to watch. Snakes are great but I get annoyed at continuously buying live food for them, and they really are only good to look at. Turtles are awesome!! But very boring. I hear some lizards like chameleons don't like to be held. I'd choose a hermit crab!! Easy to take care of :) OR a small gecko or iguana: something inexpensive. If I could have any lizard? I'd have a Bearded Dragon :)))))

well i'll tell you that i have a mali uromastyx, and he is the sweetest most non-biting, harmless, likes to be picked up thing in the world. i would recommend a mali uro, but they get longer than u r looking for, about 14-16+ inches. maybe you should look into some of the gecko species, although some can be aggressive. leopard gecko sounds like a good match for u. they r smallish, and if u handle them a lot as a baby, they can become pretty ammenable to handling. also try fat-tailed gecko. my friend has one, it's really nice. there are pages on those two in the source box. oh, and also try anoles.

No lizard that you find in a pet shop for sale to the public will be venomous, but there are 2 species of venomous liards, althought he above poster is correct in saying the Komodo dragon is not one of them.
The Gila monster and the beeded lizards have venom glands! and secrete venom into wounds as their bite/chew their prey, un like snakes though their venom glands are on the lower jaw, not the upper.....just a bit of side info for you, back to your question....
Leo's are cool, fit most of your criteria as do Anoles. look up some of the suggested species and do some research to find out which one best suits you .... and enjoy!!

First off, with any animal there is a risk of being bit. But, some good, smaller, easy first time lizards to look at are:
Leopard geckoes and Bearded dragons.

Make sure you find out the type of habitat a lizard needs in terms of temperature gradient especially.

leopared gecko...but when they are full grown they can be up to ten inches
panther gecko...also called madagascar fat tail gecko
green anole or bahamian anole...both very small and can be kept in groups
african fat tailed gecko...about 6 inches full grown but very cool
long tailed lizard...body length short, but tails up to 8 inches or so and can also be kept in groups
just know that any lizard can bite you until they get to know you, but most of these lizards won't hurt you when they are small

I reccomend that you get a gecko. A leopard one would be cool! But make sure you read up about nutrition and heating for it, if you're in a part of the world that is not tropical.

Anoles are cool. I have 5 of them in a 10 gallon tank with a 10 gallon cage topper on it.Their easy to keep and require a heat lamp when it's cold. They eat crickets and moths. I have a baby that hatched about a week ago.I hope he makes it.( see my question below yours)
