Are minor protections worth the shredding of the Constitution? Have Americans become so concerned with protecting America that we’ve forgotten what America is about? Benjamin Franklin once said, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” How far are we willing to go to insure our safety?

i completely agree with you. they are trying to take away our privacy and freedom in the name of freedom. it makes no sense. in my opinion the patriot act is against everything our constitution stands for. i will definitely base my vote on, among many other things, who voted for and against the patriot act. .

Americans have become weak, selfish puppies. Willing to trade their very souls for what is promised as security. I have no doubt that most Americans would help put on their own chains if the electricity went out for a few days. Americans have no line in the sand any longer. Any outrage commited by the government would be tolerated, if not supported by the people. Voting is a sham. The candidates will lie about everything and anything. They will, and have betrayed Americans for the smallest bribe from Corporate whores. That answer your question?

It seems many aren't considering civil liberties as a priority, much less high priority in their decision. Kucinich, Gravel and Paul seem to be the only ones who are for the preservation of liberty and back their talk with voting against the Patriot Act. The rest of the pack, both parties, are sell-outs and will sell us all out just as readily.

Very true and look at the list of canidates that support it:

Hillary Clinton
Rudy Giuliani
Barack Obama: voted yes to reauthorize it

Thats why I'm voting for Ron Paul... he's the only politician who practices what he preaches and did not say yes to the patriot act!
