this morning. It's pretty deep, but strangely there was no bleeding. The area around the cut is red as I would suspect, but there is also a red streak that stops at the edge of his arch and does not extend to his ankle. I'm not sure what the infection streaks look like, but could it have gotten infected that fast? It was only about 6 hours since he cut it.

He says he cut it on a stick, he's 5 so who knows, we are watching it VERY carefully. There's definitely nothing still in there, it's more of a chunk out of his foot than a deep gash.

A pretty deep cut with no bleeding? That doesn't sound normal. Could he still have whatever he stepped on still lodged in his foot?

Red streaks are a sign of infection. He should definitely be taken to a doctor.

Sounds like an infection. Depending on what he cut his foot with it could definitely be infected by now.

Plus, a deep cut should have been cleaned in the ER and stitched. I am afraid you did your son a rather large disservice by not taking him in.

yes. it could be infected already. blood poisoning(bactemia) to be exact. this i know b/c it's happened to me many times.it could just be a scratch but if it's blood poisoning the red line will travel up through the vein. make sure to wash it a couple times a day. if the line seems to be traveling, take him to the doc. he'll need anti biotics. what did he cut it on?
EDIT- it wasn't anything metal so he should be okay. just do what you're doing. good luck

If you didn't already take him to the ER, take him now. It sounds like infection to me.
