You could try asking someone in the filed whom you admire if they would be willing to mentor you. Addditionally, most all industries have membership organizations, you might want to join one, attend metings & ask around. You could also post to Craigs list.

Business contacts can be found everywhere. Check to see if your city runs a business expo at the fair grounds, those have tons of businesses with booths, and you can get contacts there.

Also, don't think of SCORE as the only place. The SBA and the equivelent womens and minorities groups all have mentoring programs. Check out your community papers, any business zines being put out locally, and keep an eye on any conventions in your area.

I don't know what business you're in--some are harder to get mentors in (foundry work mentors aren't as easy to find as small business crafter work for instance) but they're all out there, you need to think outside the box as well as take the standard steps with whatever local groups are in your area.
