Fuel pump? (common on GM) especialy if you run it low or out of gas frequently.
Have the computer checked for stored fault codes to point you in the right direction. (free at MOST auto parts places)

Defintlet get the computer checked for fault codes, that will point you to the best step in a proper diagnosis and as has been stated here the ingnition module is a common cause

The module is getting the wrong info. could be a bad sensor or short may be a vac leak.

my guess is the problem is within the ignition module
