Growing grass really isn't all that difficult, when you purchase your grass, make sure you know the area you live in, what type of shade or sun you have, how is your soil? A simple akaline test should be able to tell you, a local nursery should be able to assist you in getting your soil to be a sweet rich soil to grow grass. Then when laying sod, make sure to lay it in a brick pattern, then water and water and more water, fertilize with only a 1/3 recommended rate, and more water. You will have a lush yard, and neighbors jealous of your green thumb, I hope this helps you out to some degree, take care, and happy growing.

I am clueless as to how much sod is but we have done it and you will be so much happier if you do. It takes tons of watering to keep it at the first but you have an instant lush lawn. You will still need the usual maintenance after it "takes" like fertilizer, lime, weed control, etc. With regular grass, it takes slit seeding it in first and then all the fertilizer, watering etc. Lots of maintenance but you can do it. You just have to know your yard. Is it mostly shady or does it have lots of sun? Check with your local Home Depot or Loews type store and find out what type of grass grows best in your area and particular to your shade and sun issues. Great lawns take much maintenance. My husband is a bit fanatic about his lawn and is willing to do what needs to be done to make it great and we've always had a pretty fabulous lawn so his efforts are worthwhile. What are you willing to do?

It costs $3.99 a square yard around here. Installing it is fairly simple. Make sure your space is level. Rake it, lay the sod, tight together at seams. Careful not to pull and stretch it too much. The trick is keeping it moist for several weeks until the roots grow into the native soil.
