Hi, Tori. Sorry to hear about your pooch, but here's what I would do...

If your dog has very long hair, I would probably take those pesky scissors and trim some hair from around the wound. Wash the wound very well with an anti-bacterial soap and water. Any soap will do though, really. I would then use a triple antibiotic ointment on the wound and leave it uncovered. If you repeat the cleansing and the treatment with the ointment for a week, the dog should do just fine.

You don't mention if this is an indoor or an outdoor dog. If this is an outdoor working dog who gets into a lot of dirt, you may want to consider a gauze wrap, but I tend to avoid those as they always present a choking hazard. If it is an outside dog, I would consider confining the dog for a few days until the would has an opportunity to begin the healing process.

Good luck with it!

Vet is best but if you can't use so normal gauze and maybe a SMALL bit of cloth tape. If you need to wait until tomorrow for a vet to open do so but then call for professional advice. Most vets won't spend their holiday at Yahoo! Answers giving out free advice unfortunately so none of the opinions on here can be guaranteed as professional. Good luck to you and your dog! Try to keep the scissors away in the future! :D

keep it clean, use an antibacterial ointment, and try to make sure no hair gets into the cut because if his body realises there is something foreign in there it could become infected, I wouldn't bother wrapping him up in bandages! lol, most of the time gauze doesn't stay on anyway. Because he can't reach to lick it it's actually a good thing because sometimes they will lick the sore area TOO much and make it worse. Make sure you check it every day to see if it's healing well, if it becomes swollen or red and irritated take him to the vet straight away, if he's a healthy boy he should be fine!

Congrats on the hot cat! And improve congrats on your new vet! you will opt to have a vet in case you plan on conserving the cat. Rabies vaccine could be finished at low value places in some cities. many of the spay/neuter clinics furnish vaccine days. you ought to a minimum of get him vaccinated to guard him and additionally you-medicaly and legal accountability-clever. you quite need to a minimum of have a vet supply your new infant a 'as quickly as over' to make effective there are not any intense themes rumbling interior the background. some wounds from fights heal and not using a difficulty, yet as yet somebody else says-abcess(an unpleasant factor which would be dealt with and sidestep a extensive difficulty) You did no longer say if the section replaced into form of raised/puffy. You reported this is not healing-this implies there's a difficulty. Get your infant in to a vet like interior of day after today!

He has it from scissors but don't know how??

If its just a small gash and he can't reach it to keep licking, just leave it open. Sometimes vetting small gashes causes more problems. The body is very resilent and if the dog is in good health, he will heal just fine.

If you follow the Vet assistants advice, be sure to restrain the dog first. That alcohol is going to sting for the dog as badly as it would for you. Hydrogen peroxide might be a better cleanser, but still restrain the dog. It doesn't know, much less understand what is going on. It will simply feel pain and want to get away from it, any way it can.
