There wasn't much in the 80's to get excited over, now back up a decade to the early 70's and there were some cars! SS Chevelle, GTO, GTX, Road Runner, Super Bird, Super Bee, AMX, GT 350 & 500, Sunbeam Tiger, Austin Martin. Shelby's and of course the Italian Super cars that normal people couldn't afford then or now, Ferreria, Lambroginni, Masaratie.
oldmanarnie, no offense but a 89 IROC Z ain't s--t compared to a 69 Chevy with a "427/465" the factory 427 rated at 465 hp was known to be pushing over 500hp. Just for reference I am not a Chevy fan, but damn how can you debat 500 horse power. Can the Z out corner the old Chevy, you bet, but can you beat the thrill of being slamed back in your seat from just mashing the gas pedal. Granted they were pretty much straight line cars, 0 to 60, 1/4 mile and such but some of them handled pretty well for the tech of the day.
About the ain't S--T on the IROC, it is a pretty cool car, even if I don't like it that much, I give credit where credit is due.
