I have not heard of any group called "Arab 48". I do know that there are Arabs who live in Israel, with families that have been in Israel since it was established. Many are Israeli citizens, have Israeli IDs, vote in the Israeli elections, etc. There are Arab political parties, and some have members in the Knesset (Israel's version of the parliament).

Yes, that is a common term (at least in Jordan and Palestine) used to indicate Palestinians who live inside the borders of "Israel". The term is usually said as "Arab of the 48", and the 48 indicates the year 1948. I think legally they are considered Israeli and hold Israeli passports.

After 1948, a Jewish state was established which included most of the current Israeli borders (All the land west of Jordan except the West Bank and Gaza). Many people left the area to nearby places (West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon...) many of them are still living as refugee's in these countries. People who stayed are called Arab 48. There is also a less commonly, but usually understood, term of Arab of the 67. Those are people who left the West Bank after 1967.

I knew few people from Arab 48. Older generations have similar habits to typical Palestinians, but I'm not sure about younger generations. I think many of Arab 48 can speak Hebrew and Arabic.

Hope this helps!
