1---guarantee it is not white
2---the number code will tell you if it is black or colour. match the name and the number to the list at any of the computer companies. they will tell you the type and what you probably paid for it. and is it still good or has it expired?

If your printer supports a color cartridge, look at the cartridges inside the printer. The ink cartridge you found is probably out of its box and in a foil wrapper. If this is the case, compare its size (by feel) with the cartridges inside the printer. That will give you a very good guess. The color cartridge is usually larger.

If there is any writing on the outside of the cartridge wrapper, go to the manufacturer's website and compare numbers if they are present.

If you really just cannot tell, leave the package unopened until you need a new cartridge. Then it will be time to open the package and take the gamble.

At that point, you even if the cartridge is not the correct one to match the one that ran out, replace the one it matches anyway, since it's new.

Tap the cartridge on a piece of white paper. There is no white cartridges. It maybe colored but, tap it on the white paper and that should give you your answer. Be careful not to get it all over your hands or table.

Good luck to you.
