3. Why was Brunelleschi's Foundling Hospital in Florence significant?

4. Did Feudalism tend to encourage or prevent war? How?

5. What was feudal chivalry?

6. Who was Margaret Paston?

7. In what ways did the Italian Renaissance humanism transform ideas about the individual's role in society?

8. In what ways does Machiavelli represent a change in political thought, and what were his suggestions for the philosophy of the acquisition and meaning of political power?

Thanks!

Question # 6.

Margaret was born to a prominent Norfolk family. Her marriage to John Paston, son of William and Agnes, was arranged but proved a happy one, and she clearly sympathized with her in-laws, who she called "Mother" and "Father." Margaret frequently managed her husband's properties when he was away and even faced armed forces who physically ejected her from the household. She had seven children who lived to adulthood, and she took a direct interest in their affairs. Margarat Paston died 18 years after her husband, at the age of 61.

You can do homework much easier than I did when I was in school because you now have the Internet.

Good luck

Your teacher is going to be looking for specific responses, so go to the reading because the answers are there. Generally teachers will write questions in order so you can often find an answer by framing areas of the reading (ie the answer to question 4 will be found between the answers of 3 and 5 or in the vicinity).

Be very wary of answers you get here, particularly questions 4, 7, and 8 as they have a lot of opinion. If after going back to the reading you still can't find answers do a web search (I tried and hit gold with little effort) and write your own answers in your own voice with the information you read. It will help when you're tested on the material and later during the AP test.

I'm not going to do your homework for you so here are some suggestions from me:

*Go to the library and do some research in the field of European history based on these questions.

*If the library has these books, I suggest that you check them out. One is "Europe" by Norman Davies and the other one is "From Dawn to Decadence" by Jacques Barzun. Both books are well over 500 pages long so I would scour the index for anything related to your questions so don't worry about having to read those books. Be sure to cite your sources if you have to.

*Read "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli (quick read) and perhaps read into some commentary on his writings.
