I just read a question and all of the answers told the asker to read James Herriot. And it wasn't as if an answerer came along and gave a better version of the answer, they all pretty much said the same thing. Isn't that a waste of one of your answers since the asker will probably pick the first person who gave it? lol. I've seen it lots before. Or is it that you don't bother reading the answers and hope that your answer is unique?

Sometimes people post at the same time, or within the same range of seconds. So they THINK it's going to be the first answer, but it isn't.

Some people are just stupid.

I can't speak for others, but in my case I make it a point not to read any of the other answers before submitting my own. That way my contribution is unaffected by what others had to say and has a chance to be, in your words, unique. This is especially true for opinion questions (for example, Who is the greatest writer of all time?) as opposed to factual questions (What year did the Civil War begin?). In the latter case, you're right: once the answer has been given, why bother? I suspect it's because they get two points for every answer, no matter how childish or inaccurate. The way to handle such inane responses is by giving them a negative rating, assuming you're at Level 2. Not that this will stop them, I'm afraid...

I think what the person before me said is true, and I also think that some people just want the 2 points of answering a question. Or maybe they think that they can rephrase it so that they get 10 points for best answer.
But maybe they just thought they had something new to add or something.

Well, presumably they're doing it just to click in for their little 2 point reward (maybe they're trying to qualify for the regional championships or something--is there a tournament coming up later?).

P.S. Yeah, like Alex said, if the times are all the same, that explains it. (And note that this batch of answers seems to illustrate how that can occur.) And also people's different typing speeds and connections can affect this.

Well at least most of them are not copying and pasteing like some people have.

Then of course if everyone is giving the same answer you can pretty much figure it is correct, or at least a bunch of people think so.

Dan A is a smart ***!
