It is perfectly safe to vacuum while you are pregnant. I figure that what someone was taking about was the umbilical cord. It is an old wives tale that by stretching or putting your arms above your head will wrap the cord around the baby's neck. That is just a tale. You cannot cause anything like that to happen. Vacuum away.

That's one of the stupidest old wives tales that I have heard. No, it won't twist the umbilical cord. What an upright can do is give you back pain especially towards the end of your pregnancy as the twisting motion along with your swelling pulls funny on muscles. Other than that, no problem.

It's an old wives tale. Vacuuming while you are pregnant is perfectly safe and will not harm you or the baby. You could try and see if you can get out of it, though, like many pregnant women before you have! LOL

I think it is an excuse not to clean your house. Using a vacuum cleaner won't harm your child or cause any complications with the umbilical cord.

Well that depends- do you want to get out of vacuuming? :) It's safe. Purchase What to Expect When You're Expecting for the skinny on all the advice you'll undoubtedly get from well-intentioned yet misinformed friends.

just another old wives tale....nothing will hurt the baby when vacuuming. However it doesn't hurt to tell your husband that if it means he'll help with the housework!
