You need a common denominator

6 15/16 - 1/2 = 6 15/16 - 8/16 = 6 7/16

3 1/8 - 2 5/16 = 3 2/16 - 2 5/16 = 2 18/16 - 2 5/16 = 13/16

In each case you need to find a common denominator, that is a number of 'parts' that is divisible by all so

6 15/16 - 1/2 = (6 x 16)/ 16 + 15/16 =111/19 and 1/2 = 8/16 so

111/16 - 8/16 = 103/16 = 6 7/16

3 1/8 - 2 5/16 = ((8 x 3) + 1)/8 = 25/8 or 50/16
2 5/16 = ((2 x 16) + 5)/16 = 37/16

50/16 - 37/16 = 13/16

You cannot ADD or SUBTRACT fractions until they have a common denominator. So you need to first rename the fractions to equivalent fractions with the same denominator.
