my landlord recently assaulted my gf and we moved out becasue we felt unsafe. we signed a contract saying she was going to pay us back the rest of the month by the end of the month and she hasnt. does anyine know what to do to get my money back?

File suit in small claims court.

If they refuse to pay what they owe, the ONLY option is to sue.

Olesya C: A promissory note IS a contract. Assuming one was signed, the police report is a separate issue and should not be needed in court.

That was a promissory note, not a contract. Take her to small claims court/ They will want a police report on the assault charges.

Continue to call and send letters(as documentation) requesting the pay the remaining balance. The sooner you start a paper trail and the longer time that lapses, the greater chances you have in fighting her in court, if need be.

Try talking to her civilly and tactfully. Once she refuses, do not threaten to take her to court, just take her there.

Hopefully you have a police report of the assault. If not you will have a difficult time proving she owes you money.

Go see Judge Judy. I'm sure you'll end up HAVING to take her to small claims court to get your money back. Good luck!
