I think it is because the people who have made mistakes, take the criticism personally and reply by attack the critic.

A vicious circle is formed and nothing is learned.

I know you are but what am I?

Its called deflection- classic politicians deductive tool.

If America is always right and good, and somebody attacks its policies, then that person by proxy is blaming America itself...which in turn reflects badly on the blamer. So, they'll hopefully be intimidated into shutting up.

Its a cop-out way for politicians to escape blame for policies gone wrong, like national security programs.

I Agree, unfortunately some can not divorce their political affiliation from the problems that are facing America, identifying those problems is not blaming America, its holding people responsible, the very essence of Democracy.

Taking the upper hand is an old cunning strategy to muzzle criticism and dissent. The so-called representatives of people have actually betrayed the ordinary people, so why not resort to using the "unpatriotic label" chicanery to shut people off!

Conservatives love their country the way a child loves its mother: unconditional, uncritical, looking up to them as the ultimate authority.

Liberals love their country the way one adult loves another: understanding their flaws but giving them constructive feedback and supporting them to become the best they can.

because some idiots would rather ignore America's mistakes and imperfections as opposed to pointing them out and making changes to make a better America!!!!!!

they do the same thing with their children. in their eyes their children and their government can do NO wrong...... it's crazy!!!!!!!!!

Pointing out mistakes like we didn't have enough troops on the ground is a good thing; but suggesting we should have never gone and just quit is quite different. That is blaming America and it shows a pure political intent rather then doing the right thing.

They seem to feel that playing deaf, blind and dumb regarding our leaders mistakes is some how patriotic.

I don't mind constructive criticism but that's not what liberal finger-pointing sounds like. You don't like the war in Iraq? Then explain what we should do now instead of what we shouldn't have in the past. That doesn't help anyone.
