I don't believe you need 2 tanks. I have had many sliders together in one enclosure for years without issues, but you really have to watch for illness and aggression. It will take a lot of money, time, and patience to properly put together a habitat for them. Do your homework and good luck!

Turtles need ten gallons per inch of shell so get two tanks as they are solitary creatures. Get as large a tank as possible since adults need at least a 90 gallon tank and you want to avoid costly upgrades.

~You need to get two large glass tanks or a stock tank
~Submersible water heater (visitherm stealth)
~Filter 3x size of tank (Aquaclear or Xp3)
~Basking Area (Zoomed floating dock)
~Two light fixtues (clamp lamps)
~UVB bulb (Repti glo 5.0)
~Heat bulb
~Two thermometers, 78F water, 90F basking

This chart tells you what to get and your premium and basic needs as well as costs http://www.redearslider.com/startup.html

This is a good setup, it's 50 gallons and has two clamp lamps with proper heat and uvb lighting, a heater, dock, and filter that I've mentioned. A bare bottom is good since it's easier to clean and gravel with kill a turtle once they eat it and only dirty ups the tank faster.

Good luck.
