38/.4 = x/1.6
[38(1.6)]/.4=x
x=152 minutes=2 hours and 32 minutes

the distance is 4 times longer, so the time is 4 times longer too

They climb 0.4 km in 38 minutes.
so they will take 4 times 38 mins to climb 1.6km as 1.6 / 0.4 = 4.
therefore they will take 4x 38 minutes i.e. 152 minutes or 2 hours 32 minutes to climb the 1.6 km.

ok 0.4 km takes 38 min
so in order to get 1.6 km u have to multiply 0.4 x 4= 1.6

So now you multiply the 4 x 38 min=
152 minutes or 2 hours 32 min.

ok that's easy

it took them 38 mins to climb 0.4 km
it took them x minutes to climb 1 6/10 km (16/10)=1.6 km

now 0.4*x=38*1.6

so (38*6.1)/0.4 = 60.8/0.4 = 152 mins and that is in hours 152/60 = 2.53 hrs

Proportion

38/.4 = t/1.6

60.8 = .4t {cross multiply}

152 = t

You could have noticed that the new distance 1.6 is 4 times the old distance and merely multiplied the old time by 4

.4/38 = 1.6/x
x = 38*1.6/.4 = 152 minutes = 2hours 32minutes

divide min by kilometers

38 min / .4 km =95 min per km

Take min per km and multiply by 1.6 km
95 x 1.6 = 152 min

152 min/(60 min per hr)= 2.5

Took 38min to do 0.4km, How long to travel 1.6km. Set it up as a ratio.

38min / 0.4km = x min / 1.6 km

Multiply both sides by 1.6km to isolate "x"

1.6km * (38min / 0.4km) = x min
152 min = x
