Simple Solution.......Fill a paper or plastic cup with 3/8" apple cider vinegar (The Brown vinegar). Don't cover it with anything. Set it in your kitchen or where ever the rotten fruit was kept and let it alone (A widow sill is good) The fruit flies will be attracted to the vinegar smell, fall in while investigating and drown. I have used this myself here in the U.S and literally caught 50-75 fruit fliess, over a 3 day period. It Works !!!!!

NOTE### Adult Fruit Flies lay hundreds of eggs. They will hatch and grow into adults in less than a week. Fruit flies do not live or breed in your sink drains as you have been advised by others.

Wipe down the area where the fruit was with a weak bleach solution; if the fruit was in a wicker basket, for example, the wicker needs to be thoroughly cleansed or thrown away. If you only threw the fruit in the trash, throw the trash out and wash the trash bin thoroughly. They are persistent little boogers but they have a short life span. If you have a garbage dispoze-all, put the drain plug in, fill the sink with hot soapy water, then pull the plug and let the water drain out: it will fill the dispoze-all and drown the flies and their eggs.

Fill bowls with apple cider vinegar, cover tightlly with plastic wrap, poke holes in them--gnats will get in but have trouble getting back out. Can also take 2 liter bottle, cut 3 in down from top, fill with 1/2 cup each of vinegar and sugar, add water to fill a little over half way, replace top upside down--may need to duct tape to hold in place. Also, it's very important to pour bleach down your drains and let sit for at least an hour (overnight is better) before running water down it---gnats breed in the drains and this will keep them from breeding. I also hung a couple of fly strips up but they didn't seem to work very well. I hope this helps you, it worked for me. Just be patient it will take a few days to get rid of them all.

Set out a small dish of vinegar. Maybe the apple cider kind. For some reason it attracts them and they'll drown in it.
