for 5 years I was on the pill - I don't remember which off hand but afterwards I used the evra patch for 2 years. I quit using it in May 06 because we were getting married at the end of July and wanted to get pregnant soon afterwards. I ended up being 2 months pregnant at our wedding.. I was naseous all night and really quite unhappy - Just wait until a couple weeks before you are married - but then no drinking at the wedding .. or wait until just after. Also if I knew how stressful the first year of marriage was.. I would have NEVER brought a child into it. Marriage is a lot different than living together - even if it has been 4years, it is tough!

It depends on what kind of birth control you are currently using. If you are Depo Provera (aka the shot), it does take around 6 months, and sometimes longer, to fully leave your system. I would suggest not getting the shot again, and use other methods a contraception (condoms, spermicide, etc.) until the marriage.
If you are only the pill, Nuva ring, or the patch, it will be about a month to a month and a half to fully leave your system, although conceiving in that period is likely due to it being a daily intake of hormones, instead of a lingering amount like the Depo. It would be fine to stay on these methods until the wedding, then finish off the monthly cycle in which you are on once married. Doing this shouldn't prolong your time trying to conceive, it's just less likely to conceive the first month after you get off of this kind of contraceptive.
Good luck with your marriage and trying to have a little one!

I was on the depo provera shot for 2 years and stopped it. I met my husband right after and it took about a year to get pregnant (not trying though). On pills though I would wait until you're ready. I'm actually stopping mine when I'm done with this months pack to get pregnant again. I'm not sure how long it takes to conceive after the pill, usually not too long. But we'll see!

Are you referring to the pill? I'm not well-versed in birth control these days (i'm too old) but I don't know of any that last that long. Anyway, I think i'd do just as you suggested, using short term forms of protection until the wedding.
Some people would say discontinue BC completely, but don't underestimate the meaning to your child if he/she found out they were conceived pre-wedding. Maybe in American culture that's not important, but it would be to me.
Congratulations on the wedding!!

Some pills are out of your systems right away and some may take a few months. My mother got pregnant with me the month she stopped taking birth control but it does take some woman longer. Try talking to your gyno when you in for a visit to see what he or she suggests with your type of birth control.
