It will have to run its course - there's nothing a doctor can prescribe you that will get rid of the common cold. However, there are some over the counter meds you can get at the drugstore that are considered generally safe for pregnancy:
Cough - Robitussin DM, Trind-DM, Vicks Cough Syrup, Romilar, Halls
Fever and Pain: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Tylenol Cold
Congestion: Warm salt/water gargle, Saline nasal drops or spray, Sudafed, Actifed, Dristan
Don't ever take any "multi-sypmtom" formulas. You can see the full list here

The one thing my doctor told me to do that helped TREMENDOUSLY was to get those vicks shower soothers. They're little tablets that you put in your shower and then let hot water spray on them, you get a room full of wonderful steam. I'd turn the shower water on really really hot and then stand at the other end of the tub so I wouldn't have the hot water hitting me and just breathe in the vapors. I'd take a shower every night before bed and it really helped clear my head so I could sleep.
My doctor also ok'd sudafed, but the old kind, not the new formula that's on the market now.

I just had a really bad cold and sore throat a couple of weeks ago. BTW I am 31 weeks preggo. I drank a lot of luke warm water and took a lot of rest. At night, I would boil a pot of water and inhale the steam. It made me breathe a lot easier as I had a congested nostrils. Be careful though when handling the hot pot of boiling water. I rolled out a piece of paper and had one end on the spout of the kettle and the other near my nose. Try to avoid taking medications while pregnant.

Realistically, you can't do anything to "get rid" of a cold. It is caused by a virus which means it just has to run it's course. You can try taking Vit. C or better eating more citrus. This tends to help me feel better. There have been reports that Zinc lozenges help shorten the effects of a cold but I would consult my dr. before trying that one. Good Luck and Congrats.

When I had a cold here while back my doc told me to take Robitussin. He said it was fine to take. But it made my heart race for some reason. I would ask your doctor though to make sure of what is safe for you.

My doctor told me that sudafed is okay to take while pregnant. I was really stuffy too so I also used a saline nasal spray. Should help.

I just got over a cold...and it really sucks. I read everywhere that you can't or shouldn't really take anything for it. I just ate a lot of soup and had a lot to drink. Vicks vaporub will help a little. good luck
