I am staying away from strip about 3 miles and planning to spend new years eve on strip. I will be taking my car. My question is how long it will take me to get to my hotel from strip after 12:00 . Is traffic real bad on the streets around the strip. Should i get cab and park my car away

As far as I know you can't park on the streets near the Strip. They close the Strip down because of the amount of people.

Traffic will be heavy, cab will be costly because it will take a while to get out of the area. But it may be your best bet.

They will be closing down the Strip between Russell Road and Sahara Avenue starting around 8 PM. If your hotel is in downtown Las Vegas, leave your car at the hotel and take the Strip Route bus on the CAT system for free! All transit buses are free, on all 51 routes, from 6 PM on New Years' Eve until 6 PM on New Year's Day. The same if your hotel is on Boulder Highway. The Strip bus may have to go down Paradise Road or Koval Lane, but it will drop you only a few blocks east of the Strip.

Park at the Thomas and Mack Arena parking lot and take a shuttle to the strip ... I think it is only a buck each way but well worth the trouble. The strip is a mad house on New Years Eve. They close the street and you can walk the street until around Midnight. Then they move everyone off the street to the sidewalk as mid night approaches. That is so ridiculous. You can not move it is so packed.

we were on the strip in 2004 new years and it is crazy!! yes i would recommend parking your car away, but after trying to get a cab is ridiculous the wait probably is 1 hour for a cab and because they close the streets to cars cabs won't be available so soon...anyways that night we spend an hour and a half going from level 5 of the MGM parking structure to the outside and another hour and half to go to downtown (that was the most reasonable rates we found $280/night....my advice to you is stay at a hotel on the strip/book early and don't worry about the driving/parking...that year the Bellagio closed its doors to guests only if you had a room key because so many people party...anyways have fun and happy new year!!

If you wait till about 3am you won't have any problem. They actually close the Las Vegas Strip to motor vehicles.

traffic is BAD!!! prepared to stick around for minimum 2.5 hours after the celebration. I was there for 3 New years eve celebration and sure enough i was stuck till 4am each time. walking is the only non-congested transportation during those hours. and there's the fume from fireworks and alcohol from the drunk dudes you walked next to. Gross....... They are lots of crazy ppl there.
