I don't care if he/she is black, white, or purple...so long as they do the job they are elected to do.

I am not sure if I think we need one, but I don't think we need a female president either just because I am a woman. I don't care if the president is black, female, hispanic or what have yo so long as we can vote someone in that isn't a freakin idiot like the one we have.
I wouldn't vote for a president based on the color of his skin, or his or her gender, or their religious beliefs. I want one that knows how to run a country and not just run one into the ground! And it would be nice if they were not an alcoholic or a C student cause we see where that got us this time around.

Yes I think it is time that we have a black president. And Barrack Obama will be a great leader for the U.S. because he understands how it is to be a black man in a society and taken from that he can relate to many minorities in this nation. Also, because of his mix, Black Kenyan and White American, he knows from both perspectives on how to handle situations between more than one race.

I am proud to support this candidate for president because obviously he is mixed like me and he will be a great role model for not just biracial/multiracial kids or even adults but also for the minorities. I believe that he has the potential to control and help better this country. Other than that he is a candid and sincere person, he shows his immense intellectuality and eloquent speeches that I have listened to. From his speeches I can tell right away that he sounds like he knows what he is talking about. Unlike....well I don't want to mention any names.

I can't say we NEED a black president or we NEED a female president, but I wouldn't have a problem with either. In fact, I think they could bring a fresh point of view to the office. If the candidate is right, I would vote for either (or even a black female).

Good question. I can't give you a simple answer. A black president would seem to represtent a huge advance in minority rights. Yet, it is possible for such a person to support a conservative and, in my opinion, backwards ideology. Condoleeza Rice would be a good example of what I mean. Margret Thatcher as the first female prime minister of Britian did nothing whatsoever to advance women's rights. Hopefully it would be a great thing to see a president who is anything but yet another white male, but you have to look at what they really stand for first.

We DON'T need a black president any more than we NEED a white president or a female president or an Irish president or a Wiccan president or a gay president.

We need someone in there who says what needs to be done (ie, getting back to the basics), doing it, then getting out of office. Representing the people and the country is his/her job. Their job is NOT to ramrod their favorite programs through the mill...

Choosing a person for president on the auspices of race, religion, or some other arbitrary characteristic is a poor measure by which to make that selection.

The election of a president should always be about whom one believes will serve the Republic best.

If a particular race, creed, or gender fails to ever promote a candidate sufficiently that he/she garners sufficient support to catapult him/her to the primaries and victory, that reflects on that group's incohesion.

Electing a man for his skin color is really asinine.

I think we need to get to the point where we wouldn't consider him a black president. Not that I am against culture, I just can't wait for a moment when people are people and race is looked upon much like hair color. Except for the whole blonde people are stupid thing. That has to go also.

Why would being black make him a good president?

No. We need a good president. Why should race matter? What matters is who is best for the job. People need to stop focusing on race and sex.

Personally, I think Obama is the best candidate, and it has nothing to do with his skin color.

I don't think that it matters what the color of the skin is. What matters is knowing that we will have a president that is supportive of this nation and has our nation's best interests in mind.

Everything needs to quit being about race, religion and all that junk! It's ridiculous.
