I had HORRIBLE heartburn with my last child. I had to visit a gastroenterologist, who had nothing to offer me except a horse pill that brought up more acid while I tried to swallow it than it helped once I got it down.

I took tagamet. It was prescription at the time, but I often took as many as 10-200mg tabs a day.

Later in my life, I came to find out that acid was linked to how clear my bowels were. I don't mean, well, I go every day. I mean I go a lot every day. Clear it with your dr. but my #1 choice (if you can't use prilosec or nexium) would be miralax. It keeps things moist and offers really gentle BMs. You can't taste it or detect its texture. You put it in your food or drink, and several hours later, you've got a good response. I would use that, probably every other day.

Fiber tabs are good, too. At this time, I take 3 tabs a day with a glass of water, and miralax when I remember to sprinkle it on my food.

It helps if you never allow your stomach to be completely empty. Keep saltine crackers about, even beside your bed. Eat a few before you even try to sit up. No soda. Lots of salad and fiber.

I would mention it to your dr. I am not sure how a drug like nexium (which turns off the acid pumps) would affect your baby, but it works really well.

Best wishes to you. I know how you suffer and I pray the Lord will help you find a solution.

I had the same exact things with all 3 of my children, this is fine, and will not hurt the baby do to the fluids around the baby...I am 5 weeks preg with my 4th child, and not looking foward to when the morning sickness kicks in....try getting out of bed really slowley, and keeping some peanut butter, and crackers on hand...the protiens will help ease the morning sickness...
And it is perfectly normal not to feel pregnant all the time...today i don't feel pregnant at all, yesterday was a bad day for me...take it easy...rest when you can. and enjoy

I did the same thing with my 2nd child. I read recently a book that says that dehydration is the cause of morning sickness for pregnancy. I don't know if it is true or not, but it did always help settle my heartburn. And whenever I had heartburn, I was sure to vomit later. I'd try the water. It can't hurt.

Yup it's normal especially if you have heartburn and could be experiencing acid reflux. Your best bet is to call the doctor and ask him if he's okay with you taking zantac. It's safe during pregnancy and will reduce the acid so that it doesn't trigger a gag reflex and cause you to puke it up. My doc has me on it since I wasn't able to eat or drink anything without killer reflux.

I feel really bad for you...I've been there. I suffered through severe morning sickness for 23 weeks. (Mine was the all-day 24/7 version.) Vomiting due to morning sickness is (unfortunately) completely normal during pregnancy. Sometimes women who are ill first thing in the morning have luck with eating a small, carb-laden snack before getting out of bed - it can help to absorb some of that excess stomach acid, which you can thank your hormones for, by the way. Pregnancy causes your stomach to produce more acid, hence the awful regurgitation of it, and later on, the heartburn (if you don't already have it). You can try dry saltines or crackers, a little bit of bread or a handful of dry cereal. This never helped me in the least, but it does work for some people. The good news is, it does usually get better, even in the worst cases. Hang in there. Best of luck and congrats!
