For gosh sakes, stick to the recommended oil viscosity. Heavy molasses 20W-50 Castrol forces the oil pump to work harder, does not carry heat away from the block surfaces or rotating assembly nearly as well as 5W-30. Molasses will not pump to critical engine parts as quickly on cold start-ups. This is where 95% of engine wear happens pure and simple.

The best Texas brands are Valvoline, Havoline, Quaker State, Mobil and Pennziol. Two excellent Pensylvania oils, Gulf and Brad Penn come form the old Kendal refinery in Bradford Pa,

If you're intrested in oil viscosity and racing dial up Joe Gibbs Racing oil and check out the super light viscosities used for qualifying, plate racing and when the suffocating plates are not used. I'll give you a very big hint. You will not see any 30 - 40 or 50 weight oil. Why in the world would you consider Castrol 20W-50?

Mobile One if money is no problem...Shell Rotella is a good bet just stick to what Chevy recommends as for the weight of oil to use..If you have a lot of miles on the car you could use Castrol GTX High Mileage

Best brand of ordinary oil is Castrol GTX 20w50 and change every 3000 to 5000 miles.
Second best is Mobil Clean-5000 20x40 guaranteed good for 5000 miles.
Best brand of synthetic oil is AMSOIL (formerly AMZOIL) but too expensive, so go with Mobil 1 synthetic.
If cost is important, buy Castrol GTX on sale at auto store, watch for specials and coupons.
If cost no so important, use Mobil 1 synthetic and have your local gas station install for you.
Best price on other brands of synthetic oil is Firestone stores and PEP Boys.

5w-30 Valvoline maxlife or the Quakerstate high mileage oils have worked well for me, the Maxlife even stopped or very significantly slowed the leaks I gave my trucks by running 15-40 and 20-50 they are like pumping tar and will push a seal out as they try to squeeze through the oil galleys
