Be strait foward with them. Let them know that you loaned them the money in good faith that you would be repaid quickly. Then tell them that you need the money to pay your own bills or for personal expenses and that they need to pay up. If all else fails go to court depending on the amount

You say to them that you need the money that you loaned to them by x date, and then ask them what day they are going to pay you back on. You will probably have to repeat this process a couple of times. Don't get emotional when you ask - ask in a matter of fact manner.

I had to do this several times. I said "It makes me uncomfortable to ask you this, but I need you to pay me the money you owe me now". Hope it works-best plan is never to loan it-if you want to give it to them, consider it a gift.

I don't loan money. The proverb "The borrower is slave to the lender." is true. I am willing to GIVE money to someone, but never loan them anything.
If you have to ask, you can't collect without ending your relationship.

Don't be hesitant or embarrassed - THEY are the one who should be embarrassed not to have paid you. Just say something like "I really need the xx dollars that I loaned you" and put some kind of timeframe on it.
