James Gordon Brown (born 20 February 1951) is the current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He took office on 27 June 2007, three days after becoming leader of the Labour Party. Prior to this he served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer in Tony Blair's Government from 1997 to 2007, becoming the United Kingdom's longest serving Chancellor. He also holds the positions of First Lord of the Treasury, the Minister for the Civil Service and has a PhD in history[2][3] which he gained from the University of Edinburgh.

I really hope you are joking. Not a Winter of Disco Tents, a Winter of Discontent which we had in the winter of 1979 when large sections of the Public Sector went on strike. At that time there were mounds of rubbish on the streets uncollected by binmen and bodies in morgues unburied due to Morgue Workers striking and it saw out the old guard of the Labour Party and introduced Margaret Thatcher as the UK's first woman PM. The reason Gordon Brown is concerned about a new Winter of Discontent is because the Prison Officers have just been on strike because of poor Public Sector pay increases.
