Any place you would need to measure something that is either 1 or more centimeters long.

Why is this question in the Biology section. Were you talking about the bug with a 100 legs?

Centimetres (as spelt in most of the world) are a measurement of length equal to approximately 2/5 inch .. used mostly by countries that use metric measurements .. Europe, Australia and others

Anywhere you need to measure length, width, or height, and your object is small enough so it's more sensible to use centimeters than meters; and large enough so that it's more sensible to use centimeters than millimeters or micrometers.

I don't think they occur naturally anywhere. Metric system is used all over the world and more in the US all the time. Auto repair uses it a lot for nuts and bolts sizes.

in industry we use MM.
But my daughter uses CM in school.
Clothing is in CM.
I have come across situations where things have arrived 10 times too big or small because some one has mixed up the CM with the MM

Every time you need to measure something that is smaller than your height (or larger if you need the additional accuracy) but bigger than the width of your finger, where you'd switch to millimeter.
