My son is 5 1/2 months and seems to be constipated. I am going to call his doctor on Tuesday, I just wanted to get some input and opinions. He seems to push for about 3-5 minutes and then when I smell it, I go change him and all that is there is a small rock sized poop and it feels like a rock! He does eat solids, but I gave him prune juice, mixed with water and it didnt help at all. I stopped the cereal hoping that would help and its not helping... has anyone gone through this? What did you try that worked? Once again, I am calling his doctor tomorrow!

1st off, pushing liquids is the best option. Water and juice being the best choices. If that doesn't seem to be helping on it's own, you can purchase at any pharmacy infant glycerine suppositories. Follow the package directions. They soften the stool and make the bowel movement easier for baby to pass. I hope this helps. Good luck. Hope he's feeling better soon.

Try to push liquids as much as you can. Maybe give him some stage one prunes for dinner? That always makes my lil one blow up his diaper.
Liquids is going to be the best thing for him.
Why not call the doctor today? Even tho it's a holiday, you can call, and page the dr. on call, and get some advice. I know what it's like to be constipated, it's no fun. See what the doctor says. It's still early enough that it should be no big deal to call and ask.

my doctor said try freshly sqeezed orange juice with water. it worked for me..but what worked better was to slow down the solids a bit and increase the milk as the body is still adjusting to taking in solids..he only a baby so its sumtimes a slow process..do this for a week and watch how you c a difference. hope it gets better i no how worrying it is my son still gets it here and there and hes 8 months.
ps.i was breastfeeding so thats why i increased the milk and it worked but if ur babys on formula then just try freshly squeezed orange juice in water.

It took a while for my baby to get used to solids.
I only did breastmilk until he pooped then
I took him off bananas and rice cereal until he became regular. I give him other fruits with oatmeal as it has more fiber. When I make his pears, I leave on some of the peal when I cook it and blend it so it has more fiber.

put some dark karo syrup in his bottle...about a tablespoon to start...if nothing happens, add another tablespoon next time to make 2 total...then watch out...you will have a mess, but a welcome one for sure...
