What is the reason for this? I see most men playing 5 sets when women are playing 3 to win the game. Is this just one of the rules?

It's a legacy from the "men strong, women weak" era.

Women have proven they have every bit as much endurance as men, if not more. I see no physiological weaknesses that would lead to problems with long play - if women players really want to play for 4 hours to make a buck.

Men do have an edge in strength, but that can work against us in long matches when the play gets sloppy and injuries happen.

Because tournament directors feel that men should only make 3/5th's the pay of women by the hour.

To be honest, I don't know. Something to do with 5 sets being fairest, but women can't keep up a high level of play for 5 sets, so they just bumped it down to 3.

Yes its just the rules of the 4 grandslam tournaments and one or two other tournaments...
It's also a big arguing point why men and women should not be paid the same amount of money in those tournaments.
I think women will have many more injuries if they also play best of 5 sets.

Yes, that's the rule.

The organizers of tennis view men as the stronger gender and, therefore, can go the distant in a grueling 5 set match. Not so for women.

There isn't enough talent in women's tennis for there to be any best-of-five set matches on a consistent basis. If women played best-of-five through 6 rounds at a major you'd be lucky to have players make it to the final and give it their all.

Everyone is answering this question. But the
ATP or the authorities conducting the four slam tournaments should be the ones to whom the
question ought to be posed for an authoritative
