(1) He had charisma.
(2) He also was the kind of individual who would employ easily understood metaphors while making points in major speeches.
(3) He had a persona of a level headed leader that was going to be making some changes in Washington and cutting unnecessary programs.
(4) No one has ever looked as good on TV as he has.

some will credit him with single handedly defeating the soviet union, which is a major exaggeration, to say the least.
some will credit him with freeing the iran hostages, which is also not true (the hostages were released due to the Algerian Accords[negotiations between the carter adm and iran, hosted by Algeria], which Reagan had nothing to do with. look it up if you dont believe me.)
i am not a reagan fan, but i will give him credit for a few things, he was a good communicator. he would go on TV and have press conferences, or address to the nation when it was necessary. he was willing to compromise in dealing with congress and others. his optomism was exactly what the country needed after the 60's and 70's.
( i have to stop now, will come back and finish this later)

Reagan handled the Iranian hostage situation perfectly, unlike that nancy President Carter.
Reagan's tax cuts were instrumental in the economic growth of the 90s.
He put Scalia, Kennedy and O'Connor on the Supreme Court.
Grenada was a great thing.
How about when he destroyed the Soviet Union? A few million people can thank him for liberating their nations.

He knew from day 1 that the Star Wars program was a load of crap and would not work.
He went ahead with it anyway to create jobs on the gov't dollar when the private sector was unable to provide employment.
Oh, he also had Charisma. The man made people proud to be Americans for the first time in years. That is worth more than many people seem to realize.

Reagan's main acheivement was rescuing America from the self-doubt and malaise of the 60s and 70s. He renewed pride in our culture, government and military and debunked the anti-american, self-hatred mantra of dems and radicals.
He ignored the moral relativists that said communism was a co-equal political philosophy with capitalism. He stood firm against what he labeled "the evil empire", despite Dems shouts that he wanted to start a war with the Soviets. He also was ready to reach out to Gorbachev when the Soviet leader began much needed reforms in the Soviet Union.
He helped end the Iran Hostage crisis, by letting the Iranians know that the Carter vacillation was going to be replaced with by a president with real strength and determination.
He helped end the welfare state politics of FDR and LBJ, which kept people trapped in poverty by destroying their incentive to develop intellectual and vocations skills.

He had a nice smile and had taken acting lessons(president of the screen actors guild). So had his wife Nancy. When the press asked questions he didn't want to answer, he would cup his ear and say "Sorry, can't hear you" so he avoided being entangled in many scandals. He was nicknamed the "teflon president".

Well, there you go again.
First Dutch Reagan wined and dined the members of the Air Traffic Controllers union, only to violate federal law and interfere with the first strike they had under his regime. (He fired everyone of them and put these balloon-heads in their job).
Dutch then demand Gorbachev take down the Berlin wall ( it was scheduled to come down anyway).
When he and his wife were caught evading their California income taxes (on bribes and "gifts" they pocketed while in the whitehouse) they refused to pay and only settled for pennies on the dollars they owed.
While governor of California, Dutch lower the academic requirements for high school graduation, thus giving us generations of student who are too stupid to protest (see volunteer army).
The best thing about this professional script-reader/puppet is.... he can't do any more damage to our country.
That's all I have.

I am afraid I can't. He is the reason we have a large homeless population today. He approved aspartamane before it was fda approved because it was his buddy's invention/. He was in like flynn with Marcos in the Phillippines. You should have seen the castle Marcos was building for Nancy and Ronnie. Oh MY God! He was a crook and hated poor people.
