I would love to get some more goldfish and was thinking about one of the big circular bowls. My question is, do goldfish need anything to keep them entertained ie. weeds, little bridges etc. or is each other's company enough?
Also, is it cruel to keep them in a bathroom? (It is a very large bathroom btw so they would be no where near the loo.)

It's not cruel to keep a goldfish in a bathroom, but it is cruel to keep them in a bowl. Even the smallest varieties of goldfish will grow to 6-7" not counting it's tail fin. Additionally, gold fish need plenty of swimming space for a fish it's size, so one really needs 15-20 gallons to be comfortable.

While a bathroom is not cruel in and of itself, the potential for hair sprays, cleaning products and other airborne chemicals getting in the water is quite high and since most of these chemicals are deadly to fish, I wouldn't recommend placing any fish, in any size container in a bathroom.

A bowl is NOT ok for a goldfish. Fancy goldfish can grow up to 1 foot long, and Comet goldfish can grow up to 2 feet long. A Fancy Goldfish should be housed in a 10 gallon tank as juveniles, and 20 when they're adults. Comets should be un a 15 when they're juveniles, and 55+ when they're adults. The only real place for a Comet is in a very large pond. Keep in mind that these figures are for ONE goldfish.

It's not bad for a goldfish to be in a bathroom, but if the tank has no lid, then it could cause a problem. Hairspray, soap, and other bathroom chemicals could get into the tank and poison the fish. If you have a tight-fitting lid, then you could probably get away with keeping it in the bathroom, if you fed it regularly and changed 25% of the water monthly.

you may thoroughly bypass away your goldfish without nutrients for 3 days. by way of fact you haven't any longer have been given a clear out, you're able to in basic terms feed your fish another day besides. (utilising a trip feeder block isn't a great thought because it may in basic terms foul up the water on your non-filtered tank) once you get returned, do a 25% water substitute utilising conditioned faucet or distilled water. you're able to do 25% water variations a minimum of two times a week in an unfiltered tank.

Well the truth is goldfish do not do so well in bowls. THey need to be in heavily filtered water. They are very "dirty" fish in that they produce a lot of amonia. As far as the bathroom question it is not so important which room you put them in as it is whether they have a large enough "filtered" tank.

You would also have to think about the electical appliances in the bathroom and if you splash some soapy water into the tank this can be deadly aswell.

magicman116 has gave you a good answer, i wouldn't of thought about that.

Just in the process of setting up a fish tank in the kitchen.
We got all we need from "pets at home" and they were very responsible from the way they advised us to set up the tank and refused to sell fish till it was set up for a week.

Thet sell big circular bowls, and the filters and everything you need - suggest you go to them and get the bits (Or any other reputable pet shop of course).

Some fish dontlike toys in the tank, some do, some want fresh weed in there, some dont, its all about the type you get

No, I think a bathroom is fine. Also, I think it's better if you get weeds or something they can hide in if they get scared. It'll make them feel more secure.

Goldfish have the memory between 3 and 10 seconds long, also they don't have reason; therefore they don't get bored.

Keep the tank out of direct sunlight or your tank will be green in no time!

Fish get stressed though under 'cramped' conditions, it'll grow to the size of the tank, so don't get one too small if you're planning to have lots of fish. Also make sure that the tank is clean or you have a good air pump and filter, this way your fish will be happy and live longer!
