It doesn't really make a difference between the 2. I personally prefer a woman to check me but as long as they are professional and respect you it doesn't really matter.

When I first saw a gynecologist (back in 1965, when I was 15), I insisted that it had to be a woman because I was so-o-o terribly shy. I switched to a male gynecologist after that. There was nothing that the first doctor did wrong other than she was a woman--that's what made me uncomfortable during the whole procedure. I started seeing a male doctor after that and it was much more comfortable for me. I now have a female gynecologist who I have been seeing for the last 20 yrs--now I'm more comfortable with a female. The important thing to remember is that a doctor does not see you as a young female but as a patient seeking treatment/examination. The personal aspect does not come into play. Start out with an appointment with whichever doctor you think you will be comfortable with--you can always change. You won't be forced to keep seeing the same doctor if you change your mind.

My "very first time" (which shouldn't even be called that, because she didn't do anything), I had a female. She didn't do her job. She didn't run any tests, and all she did was ask "do you have any questions?"
When I turned 18 and had problems with my period and being anemic, I started going to my one I have now. He is male, and at first I was a little shy, but once I got there and started talking, I felt more comfortable and trusted him.
It's whatever you feel more comfortable with. A lot of people think males are perverts though, which isn't true. Their nurse has to be in the room during your exams, and they aren't going to do anything they aren't supposed to be doing.
I wouldn't trade my gynecologist for anyone else now. He's more gentle, friendly, and trusting than anyone else.

A guy is best. A nurse is always present. Women gynecologist are extremely rough. I haven't met a gentle one yet. You would think they'd understand, but guys are way better. Guy Gynecologists have seen so many vaginas, not to worry. You aren't the only one.

It's best to see a female. The exam can be difficult if the doctor is a man.
My first Gyn was a female and so is my present one.
Female Gyns are more gentle and empathic toward women and our problems. Male doctors are not.
Yes, there may be rough women gyns out there, but there are more gentle ones than rough ones. Mine have all been gentle.

Its just up to you whether you are wanting a male or female doctor - whcih ever one makes you feel more comfortable. A nurse or medical assistant will be in there also to help the doctor and help you also. You can also have a friend, relative, or husband in there with you.
MA that works in a OB/GYN clinic

I'm more comfortable with seeing female gynecologists. Like my husband put it, he doesn't want a woman sticking her fingers up his butt or handling his private parts. I don't like having a man doing the same to me.

I grew up with GYN problems. My first Doc was a Male. He was very good to me, and I always had his femail nurse with me in the room becuase I was nervous. He has daughters my age and always treated me with respect and a lto of good bedside manner. As I got older, though, I moved a lot as I was married to a military man at the time, and I preferred seeing women instead becuase I felt more connected with them. My personal preference is to see a female nurse/practioner that works in gynocology. They have great insights to female health and are very comfortable to discuss problems with. In my experience, they are experts in the field becuase they are women and they have a different interrest in women's heath than a male becuase they share the same equipment as I do. Now, that said, my daughter goes now to the same practice and same Doctor that I grew up with, she sees the female nurse practitioner at that practice and is really happy there. I see a different office due to insurance issues, but I have a great female nurse/practitioner that I love to death.

It's really your preference. You can always request that a nurse be present (sometimes they are without you requesting anyway). They should all be very professional in what they are doing. Make sure he/she knows it is your first time - that way they will make sure to explain everything that they do for your benefit.

Either one should be fine and you can request to have a nurse present at all times... you may even be able to take a relative or close friend to hold your hand
